Havasupai Tips
General Tips
- Be in shape before you go. You will hike about 30 miles if you do all that Havasupai has to offer.
- Only take what you need. You have to pack ALL your stuff down 10 miles to the campground. Don't bring the kitchen sink. Be smart.
- Share with others as much as possible. Team up with people on items that you don't need multiple versions of. Ex. one or two stoves not ten. One or two tents, not 8.
- Tell family or roommates where you will be. Always a good idea, regardless of Havasupai.
Hiking Tips
- Don't wear new shoes. They will blister your feet and you will ruin the trip for yourself and others. It can be miserable when the blisters set in.
- Pad the shoulder straps of your pack. The pack gets heavy and you will have some sore shoulders after a few hours.
- Strap everything tight to your pack. It won't fall out and it will make for a better hike.
- Wear one pair of thin socks and one pair of thicker socks. This can help prevent blisters. Bring your duct tape/mole skin in case.
Food Tips
- Freeze what you can. It will help it last longer.
- Break down food and put into zip-locked bags. This can help you fit more and enjoy your hike better.
